Our report Disaster – Impact on Business can help you understand the risks and ways to mitigate them.
Be Ready!
Most of us do not want to acknowledge or even give thought to the aftermath of a disaster. No matter how large or small a disaster may be we do not want to think about the consequences of a disaster. Unfortunately, not thinking about it will not make it any less likely to happen.
What we can do is to take steps to be Ready when disaster strikes.
What you can do to be Ready
The first step is devise a plan to cover the event you are most concerned with, or the event that you will most likely face.
- Gather the facts. Your plan should start with an evaluation of your area.
- Decide what actions need to be taken when an emergency occurs.
- Assign specific actions to a specific person. Do not try to do everything yourself. Divide the actions and delegate them to others.
- Decide on what resources you would need to survive the emergency.
- Determine what resources (those you have identified above) are on hand, and secure those that are missing.
- Determine what will “trigger” activation of the emergency plan.
- Rehearse your plan. Periodically (recommend at least once every 6 months-quarterly is preferred).
- Stay vigilant (situational awareness)
